Hi fellow inhabitants of Serenity!
I have something to ask you all: Please stop building large, flat, floating "cities" or "structures" in the main survivalworld.
They are not only an eye-sore, but they block the light on the ground, spawning mobs in daylight. This is a hazard.
Also, they take away building space on the ground ... who would want to build underneath them??
And lastly, I've seen floating platforms being build over existing structures and homes. Don't do that. You're blocking light from the people below you, and this can be seen as griefing.
There will be skylands in the future. But for now, please stay with your feet on firm ground
Just to give you an idea of what we're talking about, here are a few examples...
This one's allowed, and a very nice example of a floating structure that blends in the environment and doesn't cause any trouble:
This one is under construction, but has the potential to expand and block light from builds under it:
And this one (apparently called SkyVille) is a no-go. It blocks light too much, it's even build over buildings that were there half a month before, and it makes a lot of potential land unusable:
That is all. Thank you!
Ignuz
Yes, that's a possibility we are discussing right now. But first, all inhabitants need to set their home at a different location. Because if we move the town down, and they warp to their /home, they'll fall to their death ...
More details soon!
EW is moving the biggest of the bunch down to earth tomorrow evening.
This is the one and only warning I'm giving out ... so if people drop to their death because they didn't keep up with the forum it's their own fault.
There's also a sign in the middle of town so it should be clear to everyone what will happen.
Don't forget ... Today is landing day! (8 November 2011)
Hey guys I was wondering if these count:
The buildings below them are also part of the town and i'm using glass a lot so it lets light in. It's going to look better soon as well.

If you mean it's both on the ground and in the air, there's not problem.
It's just big builds being build in mid air, with nothing under it, or worse: with existing builds under it.
There will be sky-lands in the future, so save your epic floating ideas for there
OK thanks ignux
This town should be fine. It's connected to the ground in a way.

Is it possible to build like floating islands over an ocean?
As of now, there are no oceans found on the server (to what I know). Also, there's a border restriction on the map. (1500x1500)

I'm very happy I saw this as I have built a city similar to these on a solo game but still thank you for the warning and now I see the use of these forums. Not a big blogger or forum user myself so don't talk much. Anyway thank you for the heads up even if this post is old
I got a question: If you build a floating building over your own land, is it allowed? I created a second floating floor for my tree farm because I needed more trees. The area below it is relatively small, and it is lit up. I don't expect to expand it soon. If I do, it would be going over my land because of protected chunks.
